I’ve been trying to analyse why the girls are so fed-up at bedtime at the moment. Their routine has been stable for ages. They are clearly tired. They are full, comfortable and clean so why are they being so unbearable? They are still going down for their daytime naps ok. Well, G has to have an argument about it (she does about most things) but it’s usually a short-lived tizzy and she will fall asleep after a little while.
The biggest change in their lives recently is that they can now do so much more. They can sit up and play independently. They can roll freely. Their new-found abilities to move around and explore must have opened up such a variety of opportunities to them that night time must represent dullness to them. When they both started rolling properly, they would roll on to their front and roar for us to turn them over. That or they would shuffle around so much that they would get their hands and/or feet stuck in the bars of their cots. We solved this by putting them in bigger gro-bags and tucking them under the mattress, thus restricting their movement a little.
It’s also possible that we may finally be getting some action on the teeth front. They’ve only been exhibiting the signs of teething since the beginning of April so it would be nice if they actually got some bloody teeth sooner rather than later.
Like all things with babies, I hope this is just a (short) phase and they grow out of it.
