R has had a cold for the last few days and has developed a rather rattly cough. On Sunday night, she coughed so much that she started wheezing loudly like an old man with an 80 a day woodbine habit. She got quite distressed and wouldn’t drink any water or milk so we phoned NHS Direct for advice.
Dh told the nurse what was wrong and she asked if she could listen to the noises that R was making. Dh told the phone to R’s mouth and she immediately stopped wheezing and said ‘Awooooo ooo ahooo’. We both started giggling and the poor nurse probably thought it was a wind-up call. I’m convinced that R was trying to say ‘Hello, I’m fine. My parents are just really paranoid’. We gave her some calpol and she slept through, unlike her (completely fine) sister, but that’s another story.
