R and G met their future husbands yesterday. My friend gave birth to twin boys back in April and it was the first time we had actually seen them aside from photos.
O and S were 6 weeks premature. O was only just over 2lbs at birth and spent several weeks in ICU and SCBU. S spent a few weeks in SCBU. At four months old and weighing 7lbs and 9lbs respectively, O and S looked tiny compared to our (nearly) 8 month old bruisers. When we sat the four of them together, I was reminded of those programmes you see on television about the (ahem) large women with their tiny skinny partners!
It’s amazing how quickly you forget how tiny your babies were. R and G were very good weights for twins at birth (6lb 7oz and 6lb 5oz) and O didn’t weigh much more than them yesterday. I was terrified that I was going to break or drop him. S felt a little more robust but they are both very skinny. If you didn’t know, you would think they are newborns. However, little clues give away their actual (or corrected age) – they both smile, S in particular is very interested in toys and he watched the girls playing very carefully.
The girls are going through a phase of grabbing people and are fascinated by faces. I was terrified that they were going to grab one of the boys but they were, for the most part, extremely gentle with them.
My friend and her husband looked very well, considering everything they have been through. Of course they looked tired, but that’s pretty normal. They have been through so much and it is lovely for them to finally have the family they deserve. It won’t be long before all four children are running around together – beating each other up probably!
