The House of Twins has been the House of Green Gunk for the last couple of days. R has had a mild dose in one eye. G had a major attack of green pus in both eyes. Thanks to the antibiotic drops, it’s clearing up now but it was pretty nasty for a little while.

G was actually showing signs of it over the weekend so, knowing that we couldn’t see a GP, I took the girls into our local pharmacy. Once they had stopped cooing over them, the pharmacists pronounced that it wasn’t anything to worry about and that they couldn’t give them anything for it and to carry on bathing their eyes with a saline solution.

Fast forward to Tuesday. I got a mercy call at work from nursery as G’s eyes had gummed up, despite repeated bathing. I picked the girls up, drove home, picked dh up and we drove to A & E as the GP couldn’t see them, even on an emergency appointment for at least two days. We were prepared for a long wait but at least they would get treated at hospital.
Four hours later, a young paediatric doctor took one look at G’s eyes, said it was conjunctivitis, gave us some drops and said that if we wanted more we could go to a pharmacy and get them WITHOUT PRESCRIPTION!!

AAARRRGGGHHH!!! Why didn’t our local pharmacy help us out four days ago?!
At least they are getting better now. Spending a lot of time waiting around gave G the chance to smile at any young oik who happened to sit near us. R saved all of her smiles for the nice young doctor. I have clearly trained her well! I think I need to instil a better man-filter in her sister though or she’ll end up with a right chancer!

Anyway, I’m working at home for the rest of the week as the girls can’t go to nursery until they have finished the course of antibiotics. Oh, administering the drops presents its own particular joys. I HATE having things anywhere near my eyes (one of the reasons I will always be a glasses wearer) so I can only imagine the torture for them. Not that they seem particularly bothered - they were certainly full of beans this morning.

The girls may have run the gauntlet of classic nursery illnesses over the last few months but their immune systems are going to be super by the time they get to school
