The girls seem to be going through the transition from babies to toddlers at the moment. They aren’t the (reasonably) silent tiny, floppy-headed little creatures who relied on us for everything, from feeding to finding toys. However, they aren’t quite yet the fully-mobile, boisterous, walking, talking, mischief-making little girls that would be defined as toddlers.
One of the best things about this phase and one of the joys of having twins is that they will amuse themselves and each other for ages. As long as they know that one of us is around they will quite happily play together – most of the time anyway! I can’t imagine what it must be like to have to entertain a singleton all day, every day. I think I would fret that they weren’t getting enough social interaction with babies their own age whereas my two have that all the time and it isn’t something I worry about.
It’s an exciting period because they seem to pick up a new skill every day. For example, in the last couple of weeks they have mastered holding their bottles and feeding themselves and that’s been a massive change for us because we had become so used to cradling them in our arms and feeding them. In some ways I think I’m starting to feel a little redundant but it’s also quite liberating because some of the relentlessness of their routine is being alleviated.
