I read somewhere that if you don’t write at least two new entries a week a blog starts to feel neglected. Mine wears a shabby old wedding dress, smells of mildew and is covered in spiderwebs. I think I last wrote something about a week ago. I haven’t exactly been wracking up the miles in the blogosphere recently.

My excuse is extreme busyness. Everyone is back from their summer holidays (lucky them!) and my workload has increased considerably. I’ve also been attending meetings, leading training sessions, doing presentations and lots of networking type stuff and this involves a fair amount of travelling. Last week I was in Birmingham, this week it’s Bristol. I’ve also been pinging in and out of central London like a renegade bouncy-ball attending meetings, earning my corn and generally being busy.

Also, there have been antics a go-go in my virtual existence. I’m not going to get into the ins and outs of it here but suffice to say, you never quite know who you’re dealing with in cyberspace and you should never underestimate the power of a group of women to form strong bonds in a collective crisis. The result of this is that I have lots of new friends on Facebook and four message forums to keep up with and it’s far more fun catching up with them than thinking of new blog entries in the brief snatched moments I get to ‘play’ online.

Oh yes and there’s the small matter of those things I gave birth to a few months’ back. What are their names again? I spend my weekends with them but it’s now Wednesday and I’ve not spent any meaningful time with them for three days. They are making such rapid progress now that by the time I see them again they will probably be filling out their UCAS forms and introducing their boyfriends to me for my disapproval.

Oh, lurking in the background is some bloke that I share a bed with. We’ve been together for a while, he’s at least 43% responsible for Rurgh and Gurgh (I think that’s what they’re called) and I send him e-mails about parties we’ve (I say we, I mean Urble and Burble) been invited to. I really owe him some time as well.

Friends and family (real life, not virtual). Who they? I still manage a long-ish phone call once a week to my parents and I thank modern technology for enabling me to keep up with my friends via e-mail, text message and Facebook

I have devised a solution to make better use of my time though. I have finally bitten the bullet and ordered myself a shiny new laptop. I should be getting one from work but not until the end of the year so I decided to buy myself a really decent one that I can use for work until then and for leisure afterwards. This means that I’ll be able to write while I’m travelling, thus maximising the time I have at home to spend quality time with my loved ones. Hopefully they won’t have forgotten who I am by the time it arrives in a couple of weeks.
