In polite society, it is well-known that guests at a party should not attempt to upstage the hosts or guests of honour. I think R and G forgot to read their etiquette manual because they rather stole the show at O and S’s after-Christening party.
The girls demolished their usual lunchtime meal and fruit and had more than their fair share of the buffet. They beamed at anyone who showed them the slightest bit of attention, performed all of their best party tricks and R even clapped at the right moment during N’s speech.
Luckily, the boys were happy to share the limelight and their parents didn’t seem to mind in the least. In fact, N mentioned the girls in his speech – we have a long-running joke about marrying the girls off to O and S – and everyone gave them a round of applause.
Less secure people might have thought twice about inviting 10 month-old girls in uber-charming mode to share in their special day but A and N are true friends and were generous enough to invite us along. We all had a lovely time and I’m grateful that we were able to attend.
