We stayed with our friends the night before the Christening. It was our first time away from home with the girls and I was absolutely terrified. What if they didn’t settle at bedtime? What if they screamed in the night? I imagined every nightmare scenario beforehand.
I needn’t have worried. We replicated their bedtime routine as much as we could (bath, bottle, story, bed) and the girls settled in the boys’ nursery (they were turfed out of their room into a travel cot in their parents’ bedroom) without a whimper. We slept in a bedroom a down the corridor and used their monitor to keep an ear on the girls. G woke at 4.45am (darned clock change) and dh bought her in with us when her wailing became a little too loud. R woke at 5.30am and I rescued her (or rather, I rescued everyone else).
Despite the early start (why can’t we be on BST all the time?), it went really well and I’m much more confident about staying somewhere else in future.
